We're staying with Lucy and Chris on their horse farm. Chantal was an au-pair with Lucy's family back in the 1970s.

They have lots of horses

and dogs

This morning Lucy had Alex take Nick out for a ride (Nick is the horse).

In the afternoon we we went into Stevensville to visit St. Mary's Mission which was founded by Jesuits in the 19th century at the request of the local Salish Indians.

"Goin' to Montana soon,
Gonna be a dental floss tycoon"

These words have been running through my head ever since we crossed into Montana.

Give yourself 10 points if you remember where this lyric comes from. Double points if you remember the name of the album.

We saw lots and lots of hot springs and geysers. Strange beautiful smoking mineral spaces surrounded by evergreens and mountains and spilling into live streams.

It took us way longer to get to Yellowstone than we expected. Maybe we shouldn't have taken the detour to Devil's Tower.

The Bighorn Mountains were our first introduction to non-flat-land, and what a dramatic one it was.

Then through yet another variation on flat land.

Then through Cody and into the mountains again. You go through a very narrow passage, narrow enough to require some tunnels, and you're in a long winding corridor through a very long valley that ends at the entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Have we arrived? No! There's another almost-two-hour drive until we get to our destination, Grant Village Lodge.

From Cody all the way in it's a fantastically beautiful drive, better enjoyed at the beginning of a journey than at the end of a long day's drive.
